Regardless, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” has now topped the Hot 100, Billboard reports today, and so Katy is now in pop history books alongside MJ. See just how our our poll panned out below!

In addition to Perry’s streak of Teenage Dream singles (”California Dreams,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”) matching the chart-topping feat of Jackson’s five Bad jams (”I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man In The Mirror,” “Dirty Diana”), she’s now the first female in the history of the chart to land as many #1s from a single album.

“Jackson notched his quintet of #1s from Bad over nine months and two weeks,” writes Billboard’s Gary Trust. “Perry’s five toppers from Dream spans one year, two months and one week.”

“Last Friday Night,” which had been lodged at #2 on the chart behind LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” got a big boost recently with the release of a Missy Elliot remix. (It accounted for 25% of the song’s sales last week.)

Katy Perry stopped by Good Morning America this morning, and the VMA nominee answered hard-hitting questions, like what drew her to the role of Smurfette, and what shade is her new hair color really? (It’s honey.) In a bit more relevant news, Perry spoke about her pop peer Amy Winehouse’s unfortunate death last Saturday, saying “My heart felt really sad” when she heard the news. When asked about the passing of Amy Winehouse, Katy notes that she has greater insight to the power of addiction through her husband, Russel Brand, a former addict whom wrote a touching tribute to Amy the day following her death. “I see how much work it takes to be clean and sober when you have addiction on your hands. It gave me a gratefulness for my husband who got clean when he was 27.”

In regards to her plans after she concludes her California Dreams tour, she just might pull a Beyonce. “I think I have to live a little bit after this tour,” Katy says. “The living will give me greater material for the next record.”

The 2011 Video Of The Year nominee has clearly taken her role as the voice of Smurfette to heart — the pop star arrived in a white dress with the animated character's likeness bedazzled on the front, a pair of blue heels and even Smurf nails! Last month, Lady Gaga unveiled the music video for her single "The Edge of Glory" to the consternation of her fans. 

Absent were the bells and whistles that fans have come to expect from Mother Monster, replaced by stripped down clips of her dancing in a smoky, small cityscape. Soon after the video's debut, Joseph Kahn, the man originally slated to direct the video, distanced himself from the project by tweeting, "I did NOT direct Lady Gaga's 'Edge of Glory' video. Lady Gaga did — I don't co-direct. One canvas, one paintbrush. Respect the art. Very simple rule with me."

The redheaded singer canceled two dates of her California Dreams tour due to food poisoning leading to severe dehydration. This comes just a few weeks after Jennifer Hudson and Selena Gomez were rushed to the hospital on the same day for food poisoning as well. Pop stars! Take care of yourselves! And don’t eat at any restaurant with less than an A rating

Katy Perry's royal nails (via Twitter)Everybody loves a royal wedding -- even big stars like Katy Perry! The pop princess was so excited about Prince William and Kate Middleton's marriage yesterday that she felt compelled to get a manicure in honor of the royal fete.

She Tweeted a pic of her fingernails with the decals Friday, writing: "In honor of the Royal Wedding, I present you... My royal NAILS! CONGRATS!"

Most of the decals pictured the newlyweds, while Katy also featured Prince Harry and the late Princess Diana on two nails. We bet she made her British hubby very proud with that level of dedication! 

Just when folks in several southwest and midwest burghs thought they’d either have to travel to see Katy Perry’s California Dreams tour or miss it altogether, the space-age “E.T.” songstress has gone and added eight more dates to her North American trek. The new stops all feature Janelle Monae as the opener, and will see Katy ending the summer in Tulsa on September 17. (Following that she jets off to Brazil for a gig on the 23rd). Katy Perry’s California Dreams tour might seem like a big fall of candy-flavored fluff, but it takes a lot of work to dance around a stage in a cupcake dress without losing your cool! In a behind-the-scenes video of rehearsals for the the alien-attracting singer’s musical road show, Katy tweaks her costumes, practices her vocals, and figures out how to sing while sitting on two acrobats (Brandee/Leah) mid-air. A far cry from the California girl's cupcake brassieres and skin tight jeans, the Teenage Dream has been utterly transformed into a futuristic, otherworldly goddess. Katy Perry and Kanye West are ready to beam their video for “E.T.” down to earth. The pop starlet and rapper’s collaborative clip is set to arrive on March 31, when fans will get a chance to see the intergalactic visuals directed by Floria Sigismondi. The single, a remix to the original off Perry’s Grammy-nominated album Teenage Dream, has already cracked the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, currently sitting at No. 3. Mark your calendar for the alien invasion.

Janelle Monáe is ready to live the teenage dream. Katy Perry has tapped the “Tightrope” singer to open for her “California Dreams” tour on select North American dates.


The critics’ darling is set to hit the road with the pop superstar on six stops of her summer tour, beginning July 13 in Saskatchewan, Canada, and visiting Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton, closing out her short journey with a gig at St. Louis’ Scottrade Center on August 20.

Ahead of her dates with Perry, the Wondaland recording artist will co-headline the “Hooligans in Wondaland” tour with Bruno Mars, kicking off at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on May 4 and traveling through June.

B.o.B and Katy Perry, trading in her cupcake dresses for sports bras and sweats, make blink-and-you-miss it cameos in the latest Adidas ad, featuring the new song “Civilization” from Justice. (Apparently the sports apparel company has an appreciation for French electronic duos.) The two-minute commercial was directed by Romain Gavras, who traumatized redheads everywhere with his clip for M.I.A.’s “Born Free”. Thankfully, this clip is much, much less disturbing to watch (unless you get easily freaked out by sweaty athletes). Vid below.

She is now looking for a publisher to release it.

A book proposal obtained by the New York Post newspaper states: "This memoir is her story, in her own words. Mary and Keith Hudson have been Christian Evangelists long before the world every heard of Katy Perry.

"Amid a torrent of negative reports from magazines and entertainment shows, Mary Hudson wants to tell 'her story' and dispel a lot of rumors. Katy's success has impacted her ministry in both negative and positive ways.

"She loves her daughter very much and is very proud of her accomplishments, but disagrees with a lot of choices she makes in her career. This memoir is to set the record straight. It is not Christian proselytising or a Katy Perry tell-all. It is the story of Mary Perry Hudson."

Katy -- who shares her parents' faith and has a 'Jesus' tattoo on her wrist -- has previously revealed her parents think her husband, former womanizer and drug addict Russell Brand, is a “great man of God.”

She said: "My mom has this idea about Russell that he's going to be a great man of God and his transition is happening.

"I think it is happening in some way, but won't be exactly specific to what my parents think. Can you imagine where he's come from to where he is now? There's got to be a reason why he's arrived at all."

Over the weekend, cartoonish crooner Katy Perry treated fans in Paris, France, to her acoustic cover of Lady Gaga's new anthem "Born This Way." Perry, who once publicly criticized Gaga's heavy use of religious imagery in the music video for "Alejandro," belted out the first verse and a chorus to delighted fans, who can be heard singing along in the video below.

Katy did a pretty solid job with her take—but it would have been even cooler had she figured out some way to throw props to Madonna, too.

A little behind the trend but still on point, Bruno Mars delivered a velvety, soulful cover of Katy Perry’s 2010 ubiquitious chart-topper “California Gurls” for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. We’re not exactly sure why Mars — who scored his own mega-hit with Perry’s ex Travie McCoy on “Billionaire” — picked this glossy-produced pop tune to cover as a lounge song. Wouldn’t “Teenage Dream” have been a bit less touristey-piano-bar a pick? At least it’s not another eye-roll-inducing parody version. Catch one Grammy nominee take on another below!

The Grammy Awards are exactly a month away, and the hype has already set in, and for good reason. A partial list of the evening's performers has been released and some of music's brightest stars will be lighting up the stage on February 13, including Katy Perry and Lady Gaga!

Lady Gaga (Pacific Coast News)The initial list of performers for the big night also includes Miranda Lambert, Eminem, Arcade Fire, and Cee Lo Green. It's definitely going to be an exciting show! 

Eminem will take the stage (with Rihanna, perhaps?) and could very well make several trips back to the mic throughout the evening if he wins any, or all, of his 10 possible awards. 

For that matter, all of the performers could be called to the stage over the course of the evening: Gaga is up for 6 awards, Green and Perry have 5 nods, while Arcade Fire and Lambert each have 3 nominations.

When asked which celebrity she'd want to take to a prom, Taylor Swift names a few dream choices.

"It would be a group, and it would be a really fun group," the singer, 21, says on the Jan. 3 episode of the Rachael Ray show. "Because all these different reasons. Well, Katy Perry would be so much fun. She’s just like crazy fun and like spontaneous."

Swift continues, "Diddy has always been very nice to me. Justin Timberlake is the same way, he’s really funny. And, Sheryl Crow is really down to earth and really cool. And like, J. Lo would be a really good dancer!"

Noticeably absent from her list is one star she's been seen with recently: Jake Gyllenhaal.

With the end of the year approaching Katy Perry is in a tight race with Train for the most downloaded single of the year. Katy's "California Gurls" has sold 4,152,000 digital copies, putting it just 2,000 downloads behind Train's "Hey, Soul Sister," which has sold 4,154,000.

No matter how the race turns out, Train will have sold more copies overall. "Hey, Soul Sister," released digitally in August, 2009, sold 687,000 copies that year.

Regardless of the battle, Katy Perry has had a big year with her album Teenage Dream, which has produced three hit singles, and propelled her to the 11th-best selling artist of 2010 according to billboard.com's year-end charts.
