Looks like mother really knows best! It's now official that R&B singer Usher has rehired his mother, Jonetta Patton, as his manager. As the 'New York Daily News' speculated on July 7, Usher has officially ended his business relationship with Benny Medina and replaced him with his mother. Apparently Usher has made the management overhaul because of the lackluster response to his recent release, 'Here I Stand.' The CD hit stores in May and debuted at number one its first week, but only sold 433,000 units. In comparison, his last CD, 2004's 'Confessions,' had sales of 1.1 million in its first week.
Additionally, Lil Wayne's album 'Tha Carter III' debuted three weeks later and sold more than a million copies, which reportedly had the singer outraged.

Usher was also apparently upset by the ratings from the BET Awards. Billed in commercials as: "The BET Awards with an electrifying opening performance by Usher," the show only drew 5.8 million viewers. In comparison, the 2007 BET Awards with Beyonce as the opener pulled 6.3 million viewers. Music industry insiders suspect that consumers, female ones in particular, were turned off by Usher's tabloid-worthy personal life and fallout with his mother. "His core audience is black women and honestly, no black woman wants to support a man who treats his mother badly," one industry insider told me. Usher made headlines in 2007 when he fired him mother days before Mother's Day for apparently not approving of his relationship with his fiancé, Tameka Foster.

It's the battle of the R&B singers! The "Me & U" singer hit the NRJ Awards in Cannes in her Versace minidress back in January, while the "Gotta Work" songstress sizzled on the red carpet in her golden frock at the BET Awards in June. Who Rocked It?

H&R Block Co. is suing American Express over some of its TV spots, including one with Ellen DeGeneres and Beyonce Knowles, claiming it infringes on Block’s “You Got People” campaign. The lawsuit says financial services firm American Express is using terms protected under Block’s trademark registrations, including “We Got People,” “I Got People,” and “You Got People.”
Block is asking for an injunction to stop American Express from using any language similar to that in Block’s campaign and to pay it all profits resulting from American Express’ violations of Block’s trademarked campaign. Both parties declined to comment.

Michelle Williams, is speaking out about her album push-back. She doesn’t seem too pleased. She reference’s Solange’s song, “F*ck the Industry (Signed Sincerely),” so, yeah, that should tell you something. I've been telling ya'll that I felt they needed to push it back as well, plus they need more promo. I really hope this all works out for her. The singer’s third solo project, Unexpected, which is a departure from her other gospel projects, has been pushed back from an August 12th release to drop on October 7th.

With that in mind, designers decided to try their luck at cashing in on the event's global appeal by offering exclusive designs created solely for the international festivities. More than a few jumped at this prime opportunity: Nike, Adidas, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana are just a handful that have made one-of-a-kind, custom and Olympic-inspired creations.

All-American design icon Ralph Lauren snagged the contract to become the "official outfitter of the US Olympic team." Over 1,500 athletes will be donning his Polo insignia to the opening and closing ceremonies, and during their off-time as well. The color scheme is a patriotic palette of red, white and blue for a collection consisting of v-neck tennis sweaters, ties, polo mesh shirts and more. The Big Pony items which feature an oversize polor iding horse logo reminds me of what old-school hip-hop Brand Nubians' lead MC Grand Puba would wear with a Polo knapsack.
