Jason Derulo’s second Future History single “It Girl” comes dangerously close to being just another bland, cookie cutter R&B-pop experience, but lucky for him, that whistle gimmick in the chorus makes it a somewhat enjoyable (read: we’ll be over it after about the fourth listen) three minutes. Sadly, the Colin Tilley-directed video for the tune doesn’t have a similar catchy gimmick to save it from sinking into dullsville — just more of Jason’s Michael Jackson-esque moves. Watch below.

Last night Jason Derulo twirled his way onto the America’s Got Talent stage to belt out a medley of his Future History singles “It Girl” and “Don’t Wanna Go Home” while emulating — who else? — Michael Jackson. And, granted, we’re used to the 21-year-old copping MJ’s legendary moves, especially on AGT. But why not stage some original shuffling of your own at some point, Jason? Head below to watch all the fancy footwork.

Jason Derulo takes viewers behind the scenes of his video for “Don’t Wanna Go Home,” the lead single from his sophomore album Future History, due later this summer. The smooth operator shows off his fancy footwork inside an industrial warehouse, reclining on a couch with scantily-clad women as liquor bottles litter the floor.

“The inspiration behind ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ was simply all the pain, all the turmoil going on around the world, I wanted to write a song that was a pick-me-up,” Jason told MTV’s “The Seven.” “I wanted to make a song that would allow people to escape whatever they were going through.”
