‘The Voice’: Team Adam Levine Triumphs As Javier Colon Wins Season 1
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 4:21 AMThe win is a sweet one for Colon, who had released two unsuccessful albums via Capitol Records in the previous decade before being dropped from the label. He is now the recipient of a $100,000 cash prize for winning The Voice, as well as the newest member of the Universal Republic roster (home of, among others, Colbie Caillat, Owl City, 3 Doors Down and Dev). Dia Frampton was the runner-up, technically, though this show doesn’t really give any awards to the #2 person (that we know of yet).
Throughout tonight’s hour-long results show, viewers were treated to duets between the Top 4 and established recording artists. The rundown: Team Cee Lo Green’s Vicci Martinez partnered up with Pat Monahan to perform 2001 single “Drops Of Jupiter” by Monahan’s band Train. This was followed by Javier teaming up with spellbinding rock legend Stevie Nicks for a duet of Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham’s classic “Landslide” (easily the best pair-up of the night).
Later came Beverly McClellan and Ryan Tedder’s “Good Life,” i.e. OneRepublic’s current single, and Dia Frampton and Miranda Lambert’s take on “The House That Built Me.” And, yes — Miranda is Blake Shelton’s wife. And Dia is Blake Shelton’s team member. And Blake said afterward that Dia is “like family” now. Awwwwwww.
We can’t say Javier’s win is totally surprising, as we pegged him as a frontrunner back when he auditioned ten weeks ago with a mesmerizing rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s #1 ballad “Time After Time.” (And I personally felt his original song, the Rodney Jerkins-produced “Stitch By Stitch,” was the standout of all four semi-finalists’ jams.)
Alright, enough of our rambling — we’re off to have another round in honor of Javier! Voice your opinion below and let us know if you think voters got it right by crowning him the winner of the very first season of The Voice.

Christina Aguilera Earns Three Times as Much as Her Co-Stars on 'The Voice'
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 11:45 PM
Christina Aguilera (PCN)It came as something of a surprise when singer Christina Aguilera was confirmed to star on NBC's new reality competition The Voice. Aguilera had managed to steer clear of reality television for the entirety of her career, and she appeared to be suffering some personal problems in the wake of her divorce. But now it's clear that The Voice presented a financial opportunity that would have been nearly impossible to pass up: $225,000 an episode.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Aguilera earns three times as much as castmates Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green on the NBC show. This could help to explain some of the tension that makes the show so watchable: Aguilera is definitely getting the star treatment. It also explains why she gets so much screen time—NBC probably wants to get its money's worth.

Pia Toscano Gets A Record Deal — So What’s The Point Of Winning ‘Idol’?
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 9:56 PMEarlier this season, ousted tearjerker contestant Chris Medina (the same one who made J-Lo cry when she had to tell him he wasn’t going through to the Top 24) worked with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins to record a single, “What Are Words.” But Toscano’s deal, with Interscope and Idol mentor Iovine specifically, is exactly what the Season 10 champ would get — and she didn’t even have to win.
“Pia is being signed to a deal with Interscope Records who are rushing her into the studio to record an album ASAP,” a source tells Us. “Starting [Thursday] night after the show, Interscope told her they wanted her and first thing [Friday] morning Interscope brass started calling every top songwriter and producer in town to get an album together and rush release it.”
Though we don’t expect every eliminated Idol contestant to fade into obscurity — may we remind you that Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry didn’t win the competition and are doing just fine — never has there been a finalist pick up a record deal with a major label while the season was still in process.
We blame the current strategy to strike not only while the iron is hot, but boiling. For example, Greyson Chance’s video of him performing “Paparazzi” went viral on a Tuesday. He had a record deal two weeks later. His lead single came out six months later, and he’s now off on tour — less than a year after he was discovered. Youngsters Rebecca Black and Savannah Robinson (the pint-sized powerhouse who had a diva-off with Jennifer Hudson) also scored record deals almost instantaneously.
But since Pia’s tunes are now being rushed out, it’s entirely possible she could have a hit song before this season of American Idol is even over. Doesn’t that take away from the whole point of Idol — win this show, and get something extremely difficult for an aspiring musician to obtain? Except it doesn’t seem all that difficult anymore, does it?
Then again, record deal or not, Pia may not be allowed to release any new music at all. “When you compete on Idol, you must sign one of the strictest contracts in the business,” a former contestant tells PopEater. “Not only does Idol own you for the entire show and live tour that follows, it also controls everything you can do professionally for a long period after that.”
“No way do the producers want a contestant who was kicked off having a hit record when the winner hasn’t even been announced yet,” say another former contestant. “This is about protecting the brand, not about protecting Pia. She can record as many songs as she wants, but Idol will refuse to allow them to be released for now until the show is over.”

The reality program, which premieres April 12, gives viewers an inside look at the tight-knit family’s lives as they face drama including sibling rivalry, relationship struggles, bankruptcy, and a DUI.
Toni was hesitant about doing the show at first, but gave in after convincing from her youngest sister Tamar. “She said you should tell your story because they know you as an artist, but they don’t know you as a sister and a mom and a friend, and you should expose that side,” she told “Access Hollywood.”

This was rare understatement from the American Idol host. Thursday's episode was one of the wildest ever.
One might have conservatively predicted the end of the road for Haley Reinhart – but this time she wasn't in the bottom three at all.
Nope, it was a shaken Casey Abrams – a favorite of the judges since the audition rounds – who was voted off by the viewing public. And then he was saved by the judges.
Steven to the Rescue
After the shocking announcement was made, Abrams took the microphone from Seacrest and started to sing "Don't Need No Doctor," hoping for a rescue from the judges, but he was almost immediately cut off by Randy Jackson, waving for him to stop.
The judges had no intention of letting Abrams go – so no need to prove himself, either.
"This is crazy wrong," Steven Tyler said. "We made a decision here to keep you on."
Abrams looked so blindsided, first by the bad news and then by the good, he seemed on the verge of collapse. It was hard to tell whether to be scared or happy for him. His hands were trembling violently as he touched his heart.
Staggering Casey
"Are you kidding, are you kidding," he muttered over and over, as he staggered to the judges' table to thank them. He embraced Seacrest and sank to his knees. He ran into the audience and hugged his parents, sobbing, "I love you so much!"
At that point, Jennifer Lopez, who like Tyler and Jackson was floored by the public vote, almost apologetically suggested that perhaps Abrams had been thrown off the right artistic course. Or was she referring to his medical problems?
"We just want you to get back to being the musician you are," she said. "Just let people feel your soul."
Abrams, at least, still had the wits to ask how this will all work with the upcoming tour. Only the top 10 were expected to participate.
Next Week's Eliminations
Seacrest stepped forward and announced that there will be two eliminations next week, and that a top 10-plus-one will make up the tour.
That wasn't the only shock of the night: Abramas was joined in the bottom two by Stefano Langone, another favorite who's got the old-fashioned boy-crooner thing going.
What could have gone wrong?
I would have predicted Paul McDonald to go before Abrams, let alone Langone, with his husky, folksy style. But there's an abrasive, even scouring power to Abram's singing that may play better in the live auditorium, where the judges love him, than in the living room, where perhaps viewers don't.
As for Langone, he seriously miscalculated this week, singing "Hello" with a frenetic, almost histrionic urgency that was too much at odds with Lionel Richie's famous, whipped-cream original.
Thia Megia joined them in the bottom three. I love her serene, sweetly forlorn pop voice, and the judges thought she was showing some needed variety and pep this week with her cover of "Heat Wave." At this rate, though, her prospects aren't looking great.
This all happened in the last 18 minutes of the show. The rest of the episode included performances by Sugarland and Jennifer Hudson, and a bizarre visit from Hulk Hogan.
And Stevie Wonder came out to sing "Happy Birthday" to Tyler, who's turning 63 on March 26.

How does NeNe Leakes really feel about her Celebrity Apprentice nemesis Star Jones?
"She is bossy, she is manipulative, conniving," Leakes says. "And I'm not even being funny. I think that is real. I honestly think that is who she is."
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star, who appears on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing Wednesday, tells DeGeneres that she and Jones were never friendly.
"When I walked into the situation, I tried to walk in with no preconceived notions. I was just thinking, 'Okay, I'm going to do the show. I'm going to get to know who Star is,' " Leakes says.
"I think she had preconceived notions of who she thought I was just from watching me on the Housewives," she continues. "I think she thought I was going to come in and take over. I tried to get to know her. Some people are difficult to get to know. She's not the easiest person to get to know. She is a disaster."
When asked if she's the only one who doesn't get along with Jones, Leakes tells DeGeneres, "I don't think anybody is getting along with Star. I don't think she's easy to get along with."
"What happened to cause the riff?" DeGeneres asks.
Leakes replies, "Well, I just think Star is manipulative."

Camille Grammer Calls Kyle Richards a 'Bully' on Real Housewives Reunion
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 2:57 AM
What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas.
It was one of the biggest spats ofThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' first season but Kyle Richards and Camille Grammer tried (sort of) to squash the conflict that began on a weekend getaway to Sin City and spread across the country, resulting in another blowup in New York City.
Until now, that is.
On Thursday's controversial, the women will rehash the incident that sparked the feud and it appears to be no less heated. When Camille said she was going to Hawaii without husband Kelsey Grammer, Kyle recalls saying, "Oh really?" she says on the reunion. "'Cause I'm thinking, that's normal for your husband to meet you on spring break."
But Camille interpreted the remark as Kyle really saying, "Why would anyone be interested in you without your big star husband," host Andy Cohen says.
"You felt that but I didn't," Kyle snaps back. "Why would I want you on the show and not want them to film you?"
That's when Camille accuses Kyle of being a "bully."
"Quit using the buzz word of the moment, Camille," Kyle says.
Camille then says that Kyle started calling her "delusional" and now "everyone in America thinks that I'm delusional."
Kyle's explanation: "That's because you say things that aren't true."

'American Idol' Still Number 1 Despite Lower Ratings for Steven Tyler, J.Lo
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 2:02 PM
Ashley Sullivan pleaded her way into a golden ticket on the first episode of 'American Idol.' (Fox)Wednesday's premiere found Tyler, Lopez and Randy Jackson in New Jersey, where many Jersey Shore references were made and a few real talents and personalities emerged from the throng of hopeful performers. It's clear Tyler and Lopez are still finding their voices as judges (that voice disappeared completely whenever it was time for Lopez to say "no" on Wednesday), but at least audiences got a feel for their personalities. While Jenny from the Block seems poised to fill Paula Abdul's old role of being the bright sider judge with words of infinite encouragement, Tyler proved he had a knack for picking talent, and didn't have any trouble shooting people down.
Cowell's absence, however, was definitely felt during the show. In one notable instance, Springfield, MA, native Ashley Sullivan barely sang her way into a golden ticket to Hollywood despite some bewildered looks and harsh criticism from the judges panel. Sullivan, who described herself as "awkward" in a pre-audition interview, sang "Gimme Gimme" fromThoroughly Modern Millie, before breaking down in tears and begging the judges to send her to Hollywood.
Despite a "no" from Jackson, Tyler and Lopez voted her through in a move that would have had Cowell up in arms. Check out her audition below.

The new trio of judges, as a unit, came across less like judges and more like a morning news team. Jennifer Lopez's hair was immaculate, and Steven Tyler wore a colorfully clashing variety of patterns and jewelry. The back-and-forth with these two and old Idol hand Randy Jackson was comfortable filler that didn't often register as opinion.
There was no Cowell to shatter the conversation as cleanly as a rock through a window, although Tyler at least is weirdly, arrestingly flip. He asked one all-over-the-map vocalist, "Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a child?" Yet somehow he never came across as mean.
On the other hand, it doesn't seem appropriate that a judge should look at a 16-year-old girl and say appreciatively of her skirt, "Just the right amount showing, that's nice."
I wouldn't have thought such a character would establish himself as the de facto head of the panel, and yet that's what he seemed to be doing. It's a bit like having someone from Spinal Tap piloting a jet. But there you go.
As for Lopez, I believe I've mentioned that her hair was immaculate. And she tried to be kind.
The two-hour premiere capitalized on the craze for Snooki and company by holding auditions in New Jersey. One singer epitomizing the current Garden State clichés, Tiffany Rios, performed a song of her own composition (about being on American Idol) with two silver stars strategically placed on her chest. She got put through to Hollywood. As Tyler put it, "You can really sing your tush-ella off."
Other singers with enough potential to earn the gold pass were Victoria Huggins, a scarily effervescent teenager; Devyn Rush, a singing waitress; and Robbie Rosen, a 16-year-old student, once in a wheelchair. Other off-to-Hollywood inspirations were Brielle Von Hugel (her father, a former doo-wop singer, was treated for throat cancer) and Travis Orlando, who had a tough upbringing in the Bronx. He had one of the better voices – it has a nice flutter in it. A total of 51 singers were put through.
The night didn't overdo the strange and the awful, which was a relief. So, now it's here, this retooled Idol. If I could turn back time, to quote Cher – ah, but I can’t. Thursday is on to New Orleans.

"We have some very talented people," says show host Donald Trump. For the show's fourth season, singers like Meatloaf, David Cassidy, Dionne Warwick and Latoya Jackson will compete against celebrities like NeNe Leakes, baseball player Jose Canseco, Survivor winner Richard Hatch and actor Garey Busey.
But Trump admits it wasn't always easy to get big names to sign on for the show.
"When we did the very first Celebrity Apprentice people didn't know whether to do it," he says. "But then everyone has seen all the winners have gone on to all these great things. Piers Morgan with CNN. Joan Rivers's career took off again. I can't turn on the TV without seeing Bret Michaels. He is the big superstar. They've all done so well."
Now, they're actually turning people away. "We turned down 35 to 40 people," Trump says. "We really qualify people."
The other stars who made the cut include Lil Jon, singer John Rich, Mark McGrath, Playmate Hope Dworaczyk, Marlee Matlin, Lisa Rinna, model Niki Taylor and Star Jones, whom Trump called "really, really smart."

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and her husband Lamar Odom will open up their day-to-day lives on the new E! show, Khloe & Lamar.
"Ok dolls, it's official! Lamar and I will soon begin filming our very own show on E!," she announced on her blog Wednesday. "WOOOOHOOOOOOOO! How exciting is this?! It's been an option since we got married, but we wanted to enjoy our first year in private."
Kardashian promises "a lot of laughs," and insists fans of her family's show haven't seen anything yet when it comes to her life with Odom.
"Only a very small part of our life together is shown, but with this show, we're putting it ALL out there LOL," she writes. "[My brother] Rob will play a major role in this too since he lives with us. He's basically like our son LOL. With the three of us living together, it's honestly like a sitcom."

Kathy Griffin is off the D-list.
The comedian is ending the six season – and Emmy Award-winning – run of her hit Bravo show, My Life on the D-List.
"It was a really tough decision because I think of the D-List as pretty much my baby for the last six seasons and I also think it was really time to stop doing it," Griffin, 50, says by phone from L.A. "Reality is great, but I really didn't set out to be a reality star. So now it's time to spread my wings and show that I'm a little different than Kate Gosselin."
"I'm not saying better," she says, laughing, "but maybe separate myself from the pack a little bit."
Not that Griffin is leaving Bravo.
In fact, the network has enlisted her for four brand-new comedy specials, which will air quarterly in 2011.
"There is no better way to start off 2011 than giving Kathy Griffin an unprecedented four new stand-up comedy specials on Bravo in one year," network executive Andy Cohen said Wednesday in a statement. "Kathy's quick fire humor and ability to tap into pop culture make for must watch television."
And Griffin is happy to hit the road for the network. "I just cannot get enough or do enough stand-up," she says. "And there's so much fun stuff going on – from Oprah's launch of [cable network] OWN … not to mention the new Paula Abdul show [Live to Dance] or who knows what celebrity run-in I've had myself."
And, with the first special possibly taping in Milwaukee in early February, Griffin promises to keep her jokes fresh.
"[I'm] trying to keep the material as up to the minute as possible," she says. "Audiences know when they come to see me live, they're going to see new stuff. [And] as long as there's a show called My Strange Addiction about a woman who only eats toilet paper ... then I have to do stand up."
In addition to the stand-up specials, Griffin hopes to make a return to sitcoms in the future with an improvised series – think Curb Your Enthusiasm – that involves, according to the comedian, "some characters from the D-List that you've come to love, and then maybe I'll have actors play a couple other characters that are from my real life."
And Griffin, who is a People's Choice Award nominee, has her sights on nabbing her first-ever Grammy Award at Feb. 13's ceremony. "First of all, I just want to win," she says of her best comedy album nod. "I have no deep answer for that. I just want to."
"Second of all," she continues, "only two women [comedians] have won in the history of the Grammys: Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg. So I certainly would like it to go to a woman this year. A woman named Kathy Griffin. Perhaps you've heard of her?"
