This year marks what would have been the 40th annversary of Michael Jackson’s career as a solo artist, and though MJ is no longer with us, we’ll still be able to celebrate in style. The Jackson family has announced a tribute show in honor of the King of Pop slated for this Fall. The concert, called Michael Forever, will be held October 8 at the 75,000-capacity Millennium Stadium in Wales.

Though no performers have been named yet, the show will feature artists Jackson admired. “When I was told some of the names of the artists performing, I knew it would be fit for a king,” said Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson, at a press conference in Beverly Hills. She was joined by her sons Tito, Jackie and Marlon and daughter LaToya.

Missing from the press event were Michael’s brother Randy and Jermaine, who are not on board with the concert. In a statement, the two said, “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death. As everyone knows, those proceedings commence September 20.”

Janet Jackson was also not in attendance, though no reason was given for her absence.

The lineup will be announced on August 3. We bet Chris Brown is crossing his fingers for an invite.

Janet Jackson is about to make history in the city of love.

Miss Jackson will be the first female pop artist to EVER perform under the I.M.Pei glass Pyramid at Paris’ famed Louvre Museum, for their biannual fundraising event, “Liaisons au Louvre.”

“The President of the museum said, “Janet Jackson is one of the world’s greatest artistic treasures. Accordingly, we are profoundly honored, and believe it most fitting, that her performance in the Louvre Museum will be yet another masterpiece captured under our glorious glass Pyramid. I believe the evening with Janet Jackson will be a great ‘coup’ for our institution!”

Janet herself was just as flattered, saying, “The Louvre and its stunning glass Pyramid are equaled only by the priceless treasures that are housed within its impressive walls. It is an honor to be asked to participate in such an incredible evening at this historic location. ‘Liaisons au Louvre’ will be an unequaled event, raising much needed funds for this institution and the preservation of art that moves the soul.”

Janet Jackson was back in black earlier today to sign copies of her New York Times No. 1 bestseller “True You: A Guide to Finding and Loving Yourself” at Barnes & Noble in New York City. The singer-turned-author, who performed the night prior at Radio City Music Hall, flashed a smile while posing with her first book release, looking sexy in a body-length jacket over black leather leggings and Christian Louboutin stiletto boots.

Ms. Jackson, who is currently on the U.S. leg of her “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal” tour, explained that she’s thrilled to connect with fans inspired by her self-help tome. “I am excited to share my story, and the lessons that I have learned on my journey to finding and loving myself. My tour is up close and personal and I can think of no better way to be close to my fans than to meet them at these book signings,” said the pop icon, who will also make a rare appearance to sign books at Los Angeles’ Book Soup on April 15.

Janet Jackson is taking control. The iconic performer has signed a deal with Lionsgate to select, develop, and produce her own feature film for the independent studio, marking her first foray into production in her decades-long career.

The R&B superstar, who is currently on her worldwide “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal” tour, explained that her background in Hollywood influenced her long before her music career. “Many people forget I started out as an actor,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I have been fortunate to work in the film industry, though not as much as I would like. I have a passion for storytelling, and have been doing it through my music for some time.”

Jackson has previously acted in films under Lionsgate, including Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?, its sequel, and For Colored Girls. Though she doesn’t have a solid project in the works, she is interested in “diverse material,” and is particularly drawn to film noir.

The 44-year-old singer is currently on the U.S. leg of her tour, which wraps at Las Vegas’ Colosseum at Caesars Palace on April 24. A journey through Europe shortly follows with dates in Paris, London, and Monte Carlo from June 26 through July 9.

Janet Jackson zoomed into the future during her first performance in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Wednesday (Feb. 9). The iconic pop star, dressed in a metallic body suit accented by knee-high stiletto boots, shoulder pads, and a high-waisted belt, opened the show with a medley of some of her biggest hits including “Pleasure Principle,” “Control,” “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” and “Feedback.”

Currently on her global “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour,” the sexy singer is also scheduled to appear in a candid interview with NBC’s Meredith Vieira. During the chat, Janet discusses her new book True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself and touches on her difficult childhood, self-esteem issues, and her weight struggles.

“I would literally bang my head up against the wall because I didn’t feel attractive… There was a lot of pain in my life,” she revealed. “And I still have issues with it. I don’t bang my head up against the wall, but I still have those moments. And I think it’ll probably continue but at least I know how to deal with it now. And I’m in a much better space.”

The tell-all interview is set to air this Friday and Monday on “Today” and Sunday on “Dateline NBC” at 7 p.m. EST. Watch a clip below.

Pop icon Janet Jackson kicked off her ‘Number Ones: Up Close and Personal’ tour earlier today in Manila, Phillipines. The 40-plus global trek is in support of her ‘Number Ones’ greatest hits album. Some of the classic hit songs performed included ‘Control’, ‘Blackcat’, ‘Together Again’, ‘Let’s Wait Awhile’ and ‘Scream’.

The first set of photos and video footage of today’s sold out show can be viewed after the jump. Janet’s body in that futuristic catsuit is too crazy for words.  I love the short hair for everyday life Janet, but when you get to the states, PLEASE throw an 18 inch in that head!  It won't be the same, do you agree?

Janet Jackson fans really couldn’t wait to see the pop diva.

After tickets to the April 14 Los Angeles date of her newly announced "Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour" went on sale at 10 a.m. Friday morning, they sold out in less than 10 minutes, according to a spokesman for Live Nation.

To try to keep up with the demand, Jackson and Live Nation have added an additional Gibson Amphitheatre performance for Friday, April 15.

Jackson previously made news when she broke Beyonce’s attendance record when headlining the 2010 Essence Music Festival. After selling out the Louisiana Superdome -- where the annual festival is held -- Jackson reportedly commanded the first-ever waiting list for the Festival with additional seats erected and sold behind the stage.

The "Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour" is her first tour since 2008’s brief "Rock Witchu Tour," which suffered numerous canceled dates due to poor ticket sales.

For this trek, Jackson called on her fans to vote for the 35 cities (one for each of her 35 No. 1 hits) that would constitute the itinerary, with dates in Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila being the first to be announced.

"These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done. I will be as up close and personal as possible," Jackson said in a statement. "These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I'll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you've made number ones for me. Let's go!”

Tickets for her second L.A. date are on sale through Live Nation and Ticketmaster

Janet Jackson was by her family’s side at the preliminary hearing for Dr. Conrad Murray, the man accused of killing her brother. The youngest Jackson put on a suit and tie, finishing the masculine look with slicked-back hair and sunglasses as she quickly entered the courthouse after her mother Katherine and sister La Toya.

As Michael Jackson’s personal physician tried in vain to revive him after a drug overdose, Jackson’s children Paris and Prince entered his bedroom, a former employee testified Wednesday.

"Paris screamed, 'Daddy,' and she started crying," Alberto Alvarez, a logistics director for Jackson, recalled as Janet Jackson, listening in the audience of the Los Angeles courtroom, shook her head and Jackson’s mother, Katherine, dabbed away tears.

Alvarez testified in the second day of the preliminary hearing in Los Angeles on an involuntary manslaughter charge against Dr. Conrad Murray. The judge will determine whether there's enough evidence for a trial for the 57-year-old doctor.

According to Alvarez, when Jackson's children appeared that day in June 2009, Murray shouted, "Get them out! Get them out! Don’t let them see their father like this."

At the time, Paris was 11 years old and Prince was 12. Jackson was on his back, his eyes and mouth open, as Murray gave chest compressions and attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Alvarez says. Jackson was later declared dead at the hospital at age 50.

Despite making many a public show of affection, Janet Jackson and billionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana have remained tight-lipped about the nature of their relationship. That us until now.

Middle Eastern Al Mana recently opened up to VMAN magazine about his and Jackson’s status, his business affairs, and more. Certainly an interesting read.

On his relationship with Janet Jackson:

“I don’t date Janet Jackson. She is my girlfriend; there is a difference. She is a very special and talented woman who never ceases to amaze me.”

On his busy work schedule:

“I head the retail division [of the Qatar-based family empire, Al Mana Group]. I oversee new developments and I’m constantly working on interesting projects, one of them in design. I’m also pursuing an art project, and i’m involved in several charities.”

On working with Giorgio Armani:

“Mr. Armani is down-to-earth, very kind, and someone I admire for creating one of the largest luxury brands in the world from scratch.”

"...I want this film to awaken people to the power of Black actresses. I want people to know there are things that Black women go through that aren't slavery or hip-hop. I want people to know Black women as Americans..."

For decades, Ntozake Shange's play -- "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf" -- has been the Aha! and the Amen! for Black women. Now Tyler Perry's Hollywood adaptation introduces the work to a new generation. In defiance of his critics, the media mogul is determined to turn Shange's choreopoem into Oscar gold.
