As reported, Beyonce is currently in Japan promoting a range of projects, most especially her new single 'If I Were A Boy'. The 27 year old stopped by the country's Music Station show today to perform the track. As ever, she nailed it! That said, I'm sure we'll get more of a stage show with the 'Single Ladies' performances. Put on your seatbelts!!!!!!!!

Talented Knowles sisters Beyonce and Solange have embarked on a whirlwind promotional trip in Tokyo, Japan. The pair are plugging a number of projects, including their music releases. They are photographed above and below promoting their range of handbags for designer Samantha Thavasa at the upmarket Eight Million fashion store in Tokyo's Ginza district.

Halloween's History

It's a yearly jaunt that's observed on October 31. The holiday is favored by many children who look forward to dressing up as their favorite superhero, Disney character or perhaps something a little more in tune with the occasion such as a witch, ghost or goblin. With costumes donned, neighborhood little ones and not-so-little ones alike can be seen throughout communities, knocking on doors in anticipation of the householder doling out candy, gum and other treats.

This has become a social event for adults as well. Many plan Halloween gatherings/parties and even host contests for the best , most original, funniest and most creative get ups.

If this is how you approach Halloween then the rest of this information may not be of interest to you. However, if you'd like to know its origin and the background of its associated customs, by all means continue reading ...

The Online Etymonlogy Dictionary gives this definition:

c.1745, Scottish shortening of Allhallow-even "Eve of All Saints, last night of October" (1556), the last night of the year in the old Celtic calendar, where it was Old Year's Night, a night for witches. Another pagan holiday given a cursory baptism and sent on its way. Hallowmas "All-saints" is first attested 1389.

The Encyclopedia Americana says: "Elements of the customs connected with Halloween can be traced to a Druid ceremony in pre-Christian times. The Celts had festivals for two major gods-a sun god and a god of the dead (called Samhain), whose festival was held on November 1, the beginning of the Celtic New Year. The festival of the dead was gradually incorporated into Christian ritual."-(1977), Vol. 13, p. 725.

The Celts believed that as the days shortened, it was necessary to reinvigorate the sun through various rites and sacrifices.

It was believed that on the festival of Samhain, the veil between the human and the supernatural worlds was parted and spirits, both good and evil, roamed the earth. The souls of the dead were thought to return to their homes, and families would put out food and drink for their ghostly visitors in hopes of appeasing them and warding off misfortune.

This practice continues to thrive in many latino cultures.

I know that Samuel L. Jackson is game for anything when it comes to the number of films he has done in the last few years, but there comes a time when you have to take a pass at some things. Although he did a decent job with the remake of 'Shaft', most people will always think of Richard Roundtree in that role. The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Jackson has agreed to star in a remake of Berry Gordy's 'The Last Dragon'.

Jackson will play Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry, whose spiel included asking ego-driven questions like "Am I the baddest mofo lowdown around this town?" Each time his gang of thugs answered, "Sho 'nuff!"

*Sidenote* Who thinks Busta Rhymes would have made a better "Sho'nuff?"

After a brief hiatus, R&B crooner Ginuwine is back set to release his first major-label album in 2009. Check out the report via Billboard:
Ginuwine is set to return in the first quarter 2009 with a new single and album. The as-yet-untitled project will be released by Notifi Records, with distribution through Warner Bros. Notifi is headed by CEO Ira Dewitt.

In addition to singer/songwriter/producer Tank, who is executive producing the album, Ginuwine is collaborating with Next founding member RL and Harold Lilly Jr., among others.

"Everything is still in the works," Ginuwine tells Billboard.com. "I don't want to rush anything. I'm just working on various songs and definitely hoping to work with others like Polow da Don and Timbaland. However, at this point I can say the music will reflect a maturing Ginuwine. I'm not the same young man I was when I first got into music. "

Ginuwine was 21 when he hit big in 1996 with "Pony," his first crossover hit (No. 1 R&B, No. 6 pop). The single garnered the Washington, D.C. native a contract with 550 Music/Epic and propelled his Timbaland-produced debut album, "Ginuwine -- The Bachelor," to multi-platinum status.

Last week, when Lil Wayne, 26, became a father for the second time to baby boy Dwayne Michael Carter III, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, he wasn't handing out cigars in the waiting room. He was right there in the delivery room.

"I delivered him. I held the left leg the whole time," Wayne said Tuesday night at Power 105.1's Powerhouse concert. "It was nasty, very nasty, but it was wonderful. Oct. 22, 9:25 a.m., 7 lbs., 12 oz. He's the best thing to ever happen to me, next to my daughter.”

As two of the hottest young stars on the international music scene at present, Brown and Rihanna, aged just 19 and 20 respectively, showed they already have their performing wings.

First to take the stage was Brown, who descended from the rafters singing his hit Wall to Wall, to ear-piercing screams from the largely female audience.

Joined by his accomplished backing dancers, Brown embarked on a set that barely let up for 70 minutes. An onstage DJ bridged the gaps during the numerous costume changes and allowed Brown to spend time in a bit of banter with the crowd.

"Where are my single ladies at?" he queried following a rendition of Gimme That, before asking the screaming girls to yell out their phone numbers so he could call them.

Given the energy of the performance, the singing was lost at times, but the audience didn't seem to mind.

Brown's dance moves are some of the slickest Vector's stage has seen since Justin Timberlake played there last year.

He does have a voice to match, though, and the times it shone through - in the quieter numbers such as Yo (Excuse Me Miss), he had the audience mesmerised.

Following an intermission it was the turn of Rihanna, the talented beauty from Barbados.

Starting her set from a platform high above the stage, she wowed the crowd with a rendition of Disturbia. As the platform sank lower, her outfit - a dominatrix-style print leotard with thigh-high boots - caught the attention more than her singing.

Rihanna's half of the concert relied more on multimedia theatrics than Brown's had, but her voice also came across more strongly - perhaps because she was relying less on dance moves to impress the crowd.

Her new single Rehab, written, she said, "by a very good friend of mine" - the aforementioned Justin Timberlake - brought the house down.

But the crowning moment was when Brown and Rihanna took to the stage together for a performance of the latter's 2007 smash hit Umbrella.

Two young performers giving a new generation of concert-goers a taste of just what a great concert should be.
