Whitney Houston has every reason to feel like a “Million Dollar Bill.” The pop diva’s new album enters the charts at No. 1, becoming the biggest first-week sales of her career and the best-selling first week by a female artist this year.
Houston’s first album in seven years, I Look to You, debuts with 304,801 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This is her fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. Outside the U.S., she holds the No. 1 spot in Canada, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.
These numbers are Houston’s best opening sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. Her previous best first week was in 2002 with Just Whitney (205,000). I Look to You is also the singer’s first No. 1 since The Bodyguard soundtrack spent 20 weeks at No. 1 in 1993.
Elsewhere on the charts, Trey Songz’s Ready has the second-biggest debut of the week, landing at No. 3 with 131,000, while Pitbull’s Rebelution makes it way in at No. 8 with 41,000.

Interview With R. Kelly: Singer Talks Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston & New Music
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 3:59 AM
While many artists were influenced by the genius of Michael Jackson, R&B star R. Kelly had the pleasure of creating one of the King of Pop's biggest hits, 'You Are Not Alone.'
The platinum-selling single was the first record to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 when it bowed in August of 1995.
After their previous success, it's no wonder Jackson was eager to work with Kelly again on his upcoming album before his death.
"I recorded five joints for Michael Jackson," Kelly said, as we sat in the intimate recording studio nestled in the basement of his Chicago mansion. "This studio here is where Michael recorded. And we had been talking on the phone about his new album, and I was going to finish what Michael was doing at the time. We're going to get it out though. Michael liked the way I would try to sing the songs just like him."
But before he concentrates on releasing the unfinished Jackson tunes, the 42-year-old R&B crooner is anticipating his own new CD, 'Untitled,' slated to drop Oct. 13.
After 20 years in the music business, Kelly has seen a lot of artists come and go. It's for that reason, the Chicago native said, that he doesn't concern himself with the newcomers in the business who look to challenge him and take his spot as the "King of R&B."
"If you a true King, you don't get into challenges," he offered, pausing from playing his keyboard for emphasis. "I don't get into the challenges anymore. I've passed that. You know, it's like Muhammad Ali. You get to a certain status in your life, and you don't have to throw another punch. You are who you are, and people are pretty much going to recognize that if you walk that way. It's like, what is an elephant going do when an ant or a fly lands on him? You know what I'm saying? You not gonna go out your way to swat an ant. These guys got some growing up to do. I'm past that. That's something that maybe I would have answered 20 years ago."
The three-time Grammy winner, who has won everything from Grammys to Billboard Awards, penned the title track for Whitney Houston's new CD, 'I Look to You.'
"Whitney, that's like my sister. We get into it all the time, but she didn't understand the process, and Toni Braxton didn't understand the process. You have to talk about them and crack on them. I'm a mama jokes specialist. Sometimes you got to get to cracking and ribbing on people to let them know how real yo ass is and how ghetto you is," he said.
Kelly then re-enacted his conversation in the studio with Houston.
Kelly: Now say this. [Begins playing keyboard and singing Houston's 'I Look to You'] "As I lay me down..."
Then mimicking Houston's voice, he said, "What the f-k you mean say that? That's all you got?"
Kelly: "Hell yeah, that's all I got! But just say that for right now. You gonna have to trust me some [continues singing 'I Look to You']. Then now when it all starts to come together halfway through the song, now yo ass wants to believe me! Yeah whatever."
Kelly said he admonished Houston, urging her to get herself together before returning to the studio, because he wanted her in mint condition when they cut his songs.
"I told her to go get clean and refreshed, and sing my song like 'I'll Will Always Love You,' and we gonna be alright," he laughed.
The singer wasn't laughing, though, when it came to producing the soundtrack for the movie 'Life.' Kelly confessed that he begrudgingly gave up his song 'Fortunate' for that CD.
"I hated giving 'Fortunate' to Maxwell! But I'm not selfish," he giggled, before adding, "Just say catalog!"
Having written hits for the likes of Celine Dion, Kirk Franklin, the Isley Brothers, Britney Spears, Charlie Wilson and Ruben Studdard, Kelly confessed there is only one other artist he's itching to get into the studio with.
"I want to get in with Stevie Wonder, man," he shared. "I want to get in with Stevie because Stevie continues my legacy, and then I can continue his legacy. And then Stevie, of course, he's done so many hits. It's like sometimes it's hard to get with somebody else that's going to continue your legacy. It was pretty hard for me, and I understand I got to go to Atlanta to work with these new and younger producers and stuff if I want to stay current. I realize that I got something to give them, too. I got something to feed to them, but I got to realize they can feed me, too. So it's hard to let your ego down, and you've written so many hits for yourself and did everything -- keyboard, production, everything yourself. It's hard to all of a sudden say, 'Hold on, Kells.' So I think it was pretty hard for Stevie to just say, 'Oh, wait a minute. I got to do this with another younger guy.'"
Kelly said he originally wrote his song 'Happy People' for Wonder, who passed on recording it. The track ultimately ended up on Kelly's 'Happy People/U Saved Me' double CD.
For the first time that I could remember, Kelly acknowledged his challenges with reading and writing while we talked in the studio.
"I have to be honest. The reason I don't write down lyrics to songs is because I don't spell too well," he addressed.
After being asked what song from his massive catalog was his favorite, Kelly broke into an a capella rendition of his sexually charged '12 Play' before concluding: "I had all three of my kids off that record."
Here is R. Keri On Kimmel
R. Kelly and Keri Hilson (aka R. Keri) performed “Number One” for the first time together on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Kellz also did “Supa Man High” from his Untitled album in the pre-taped segment, which aired on Thursday’s show. Shout out to Sabrina & Ebony!!! I see ya ladies!!!

"Late planning!" he tells Winfrey in an interview for the October issue of O magazine.
Although his marriage to Beyoncé last year wasn't a complete secret – the couple created a buzz when they took out a marriage license days before their private ceremony – he says "very few" people knew about it.
"The sad part is that we offended some," Jay-Z, 39, admits of the last-minute event. But, "people who love you understand," he says. "Because at the end of the day, it's your day."
The rapper – set to release The Blueprint 3 Sept. 11 – also opened up about his weekly date with his lovely wife. "There's a great pizza spot we go to every Sunday. It's our tradition. They came for an intimate ceremony for a superstar: Lisa Marie Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, Macaulay Culkin, Chris Tucker and Mila Kunis arrived at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif., on Thursday for the funeral for Michael Jackson.
On a hot Southern California night, the skies still smoky from mountain brush fires, the famous friends joined Jackson’s family, including his parents, brothers and sisters and three children, to say goodbye.
As Jackson’s backup dancers served as ushers, his brothers, wearing black armbands and a sequined glove on one hand, carried his flower-covered casket out of the hearse and placed it before about 200 mourners on a stage decorated with white lilies and white roses – a private, intimate gathering in contrast to the thousands who attended Jackson’s internationally telecast memorial service at Los Angeles’ Staples Center.
A Crown for a King
Jackson’s three children then placed a crown on their father’s coffin to mark his place as the King of Pop.
After a prayer by Pastor Lucius Smith and a gospel sung by Gladys Knight, Clifton Davis performed the Jackson 5 song he wrote, “Never Can Say Goodbye.” Jackson’s father Joseph and the Rev. Al Sharpton addressed the mourners, as did close friends and family.
After the ceremony, the brothers carried the casket to the Grand Mausoleum, where at 9:43 p.m. Jackson entered his final resting place.
Afterwards, his family issued statement to "once again thank all of Michael Jackson’s fans around the world for their generous outpouring of support during this terribly difficult time. Their expressions of love for Michael and his music have sustained the Jackson Family."
Famous Neighbors
The entertainer, who died June 25 at age 50, is interred near Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow and Red Skelton. The building is patterned on 13th Century Italian architecture, with the walls and floors of each crypt constructed of reinforced concrete.

The Jackson family provided live video images of the ceremony up to the removal of the casket from the hearse. After that, television stations carried images from news helicopters hovering over a 3,000-foot minimum altitude imposed by authorities during the funeral.
Jackson’s estate will pay for the small but expensive funeral, which took place under heavy security. "The expenses will be extraordinary, but Michael Jackson was extraordinary," Jeryll Cohen, an attorney for the singer's estate, said Wednesday at a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court dealing with the funeral costs.
Jackson's brother Marlon has said that Michael's three children have each written letters to their father that will lie with him alongside one of his signature white gloves. The notes by Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and Blanket, 7, read: "Daddy, we love you, we miss you.’
Funeral Tweets
Sharpton sent Twitter messages from the funeral, saying that before the family arrived he was speaking with Thomas Messereau, who successfully defended Jackson against child molestation charges.
"What MJ went through was so unfair, yet he succeeded," Sharpton Tweeted. "In the end, he was the biggest artist ever. He faced the headwinds but he made it."

Chris Brown may have support from his peers in the music industry, but it doesn’t look like he will be reappearing on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” anytime soon. The talk-show host has some advice for the 20-year-old pop star.
In March, Oprah aired a show about domestic abuse, which she dedicated to “the Rihannas of the world.” “It makes me so sad,” she said on the program. “Love doesn’t hurt. If a man hits you once, he will hit you again.”
When asked what he thought of Oprah’s comments, Brown recently told PEOPLE magazine, “I commend Oprah on being like, ‘This is a problem,’ but it was a slap in my face. I did a lot of stuff for her, like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been more helpful, like, ‘Okay, I’m going to help both of these people out.’”
Oprah responded in a statement to TMZ: “Oprah is very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school, but she takes domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes he gets the counseling he needs.”

Who would have thought a day of baby shopping could be so emotional?
Kim Kardashian hit Bel-Bambini boutique last week in West Hollywood with her pregnant sister Kourtney, only to battle a host of feelings – starting with frustration at not knowing what sex her sister's baby will be.
"I found that really hard," Kim wrote on her blog. "I just wanted to shop for pink or blue, haha! I want Kourt and Scott to find out already!!"
But that was nothing compared to the sudden stirring of Kim's maternal instincts.
"I want a baby!!!!" she writes. "OK, so maybe not right now, but I can't wait to be an aunt!"

Immediately after his late-night fight with Rihanna over Grammy weekend, Chris Brown knew what he had to do: Tell his mother.
"I went to my mom and I was upset," says Brown, who was raised by his mother, Joyce Hawkins, in the small town of Tappahannock, Va., where they both still live a few doors down from each other. "I told my mom what happened and just broke down. I was disappointed in myself and I felt like I had let my mom down."
For Hawkins, herself a victim of domestic abuse, Brown's confessional still haunts her. "It was the most painful moment in my life to hear him tell me that," she tells PEOPLE. "I just sighed and was like, 'What in the world happened?' And you know he started talking, but I could see the pain in his face and how hurt he was while he was trying to tell me. It wasn't easy for him to do."
Hawkins, who avoided watching TV in the wake of the incident, had strong words for her son. "I explained to him that in no way [was] what he did right or acceptable," she says of Brown's assault of Rihanna in his rented Lamborghini on Feb. 8. "And I just explained to him that if something of this magnitude ever happened again, what he should do – walk away from any situation and never involve yourself like that ever again."
Even so, Brown's behavior was a shock. "I've never seen any violence in Chris, ever. There was never a history of violence." Hawkins says of her son, who has no prior criminal record, "He’s always been my little angel."
As Brown begins serving his sentence, Hawkins says the ordeal over the last seven months has taken a toll. "He's dealt with it, but it hasn't been easy," she says, before adding that her heart also goes out to Rihanna. "I love her. She's like a daughter. She became family to us. She's spent Christmas with us and for the last two years."
