Beyoncé - "Schoolin' Life"
Sunday, November 30, 2008
An exclusive video clip from the upcoming movie “Cadillac Records” was released online earlier this week. In the clip, Etta James (portrayed by Beyonce) and Leonard Chess (portrayed by Adrien Brody) have a conflict over the direction of a song, but ultimately Etta pulls it off. I love this song, you can hear the pain in her voice. What do you think of Bee's performance? The soundtrack is availible this Tues. (Dec. 2nd)

Britney Spears got an early 27th birthday party in a British nightclub, blowing out the candles on a cake decorated to look like the cover of her new album Circus.
As cameras flashed, Spears was serenaded Saturday in the VIP balcony of the club G-A-Y with "Happy Birthday," another highlight of her European mini-tour in which she's performed her track "Womanizer" on TV shows in Germany, France and Great Britain.
With her comeback on track, Spears is scheduled to return to the United States for an appearance Tuesday – her actual birthday – on Good Morning America.
"The whole year has been a hell of a year for me," she tells Glamour. "I have been working so hard on my album, but I didn't know exactly where I stood with everyone. When I received the awards [at the Video Music Awards] and [the audience] stood for me, it showed me how much love is out there."
Music, she says, has helped her recover.
"Recording this album has helped take my mind off certain things," she tells the magazine. "For me, my music is therapy."

Publicist Confesses To Making Up Rumors About Rihanna & Jay-Z Affair
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 9:39 PM
One of the biggest unsubstantiated rumors that began online can now be put to rest since its creator has come clean in a new book called 'Publicity Stunt: The Art of Noise.'
In the tome, publicist Jonathan Hay details his crafty publicity campaigns and he is solely responsible for making up the rumor that pop star Rihanna was having an affair with hip-hop star Jay-Z all for sake of pushing her single, 'Pon De Replay.'
Though he confessed that the singer and the rapper were completely unaware that he made up the story, Hay, who is also a freelance writer, boasts to Joe Klein of 'Associated Content' about how his handy work led to her superstar status.
I have pulled three parts of Hay's transcript from the interview and you can read him describe in his own words how the story came to be.
Jonathan Hay part one: Along with one of my partners, I then began to fabricate stories of Rihanna and Jay-Z, leaking false rumors to tabloids, working internet message boards, etc. We started to get an insane amount of media coverage very fast. There are so many things we did that people don't even know about, not even Rihanna herself. She was completely unknown and I was paid by Vada Nobles to generate publicity. The mega Island Def Jam deal rumor, we fluffed and fabricated. Rihanna and Vada had no idea what I was doing behind the scenes, but my whole agenda was to get media for the song.
Jonathan Hay part two: I mean leaking out sensational stories and spreading them around in the news - to tabloids such as the 'National Enquirer,' music and gossip sites and whatnot. Like when the rumor surfaced that Jay-Z had a new love life and was cheating on Beyonce...that was just to get attention. Rihanna had nothing to do with any of that, nor did she know what we were doing. I was just trying to break the single and stay employed by Vada Nobles. Even Vada didn't know half the stuff I was doing. I kept my strategy a secret at the time because, honestly, everyone would have been against it, the tactics that I used. But I was only thinking about the end result - and look what happened...gossip sells.
Jonathan Hay part three: I feel awful but, yes, I leaked some of those stories. Looking back, I am ashamed of that; there was zero integrity in that maneuver. But this is entertainment and I wanted to obtain publicity - so I came up with some crazy stories and it worked. Rihanna is one of the biggest stars in the world now, and look at how she stormed into the business! Not to take anything from her - she is a great artist - but every artist needs a launching pad and there is nothing better than a good scandal to get the public's attention.

Taraji P. Henson Talks About Jamie Foxx's New Video - 'Just Like Me'
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 9:40 PM
With 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' slated for release next month, and having appeared in 'The Family That Preys' along with some episodic work on ABC's 'Eli Stone', Taraji P. Henson has been seen on the big and small screen this year, and now you can seen her in music videos as well.
In her return to the music scene since being featured in Common's Testify video, Henson stars along Oscar winner/ singer Jamie Foxx in his newest video from his latest single, 'Just Like Me', which also features rapper T.I . What's interesting is that the video was shot by filmmaker Bret Ratner (Rour Hour).
The song will be featured on Foxx's third album 'Intuition,' which hits stores on Dec. 16.
Henson is no stranger to the music industry. She did sing the theme song to 'Hustle and Flow' at the 2006 Oscars. I recently spoke to her regarding her appearance in the Foxx video.
Taraji P. Henson: It was so much fun working with Jamie Foxx and Bret Ratner, whom I had never worked with before. I'm looking forward to doing more work with the both of them. It was a chance for those who have seen my work to see me be really silly. I don't think my audience understands that I'm a stronger comedic actress or that I'm a comedic actress. You have seen me in more dramatic films, but in my opinion, comedy is my strongest attribute. It was a chance for me to be as silly as I want to be.
What's the story in the video about?
TPH: The song is called 'Just Like Me' and Jamie and I have been rivals since we were kids. The video opens with us as toddlers having a hot dog eating contest, and we go through these vignettes of competition. Silly competitions like a 'High Five competition' or 'The Stare Down competetion', and it goes through who wins. I win the majority of the time, but since it's his video, he has to win in the end.

'Chicago Sun Times' columnist Bill Zwecker reported on Nov. 26 that Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown were considering rekindling their relationship.
In the column he wrote: "several sightings of Houston and Brown in recent days -- clearly looking very romantic while dining together -- seem to boost the reliability of what I'm hearing. I'm also hearing that the divorced couple's daughter Bobbi Kristina is eager for her parents to remarry."
I never once believed the story since it was just a few weeks ago that Brown – with his longtime girlfriend/manager Alicia Etheridge – was here in Washington, DC performing with his New Edition members Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant for the 'Heads of State' tour along with Dru Hill and SWV.
Brown and Etheridge, whom he's been dating exclusively since his 14-year marriage to Houston ended, looked very happy, lovingly holding hands and were very affectionate as they moved around backstage at D.A.R. Constitution Hall and later at The Melrose Hotel where they were staying.
Since being with Etheridge, the 39-year-old "King of R&B" has been performing more shows, making more money and has stayed out of trouble with the law more than he has in the last decade.
In addition to solo shows and spot dates with New Edition, Brown has a talent holding deal with the Country Music Channel (CMT), where he's already done two reality shows 'Gone Country' and 'Outsiders Inn.'
It is no secret and has been widely reported before that Houston and Brown often get together for dinners with their 15-year-old daughter, who apparently lives mostly in Atlanta with Houston's brother Gary.
If my personal belief that the report was bogus wasn't enough, now the 'I Will Always Love You' singer's rep Nancy Seltzer has issued a statement on behalf of Houston calling the 'Chicago Sun Times' story "a complete fabrication."
Most recently, the 45-year-old Clive Davis protégé has been romantically linked with R&B singer Ray J.

With less than one week to go before the release of her brand new album Circus, it was about time for some live performances right? Dressed in knee-high boots, sheer top and short shorts, Britney Spears took the stage in Germany at the 2008 Bambi awards and performed her hit single Womanizer. Performance wise, it looks like Brit still has a ways to go. She gets an A for effort but there could have definitely been more energy given. Her new album hits stores December 2nd.

Sasha Fierce Sampled: Shanice Belts Out Beyonce's 'If I Were A Boy'
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 8:07 PM
There are hundreds of videos popping up on YouTube from Beyonce fans performing their interpretation (or spoof) of her latest single, 'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).'
While everyone from cross-dressing Beyonce copycats to plus-sized percolating pretenders offer up a rendition of the high-energy dance video, R&B singer Shanice opted to tackle Mrs. Shawn Carter's melodic ballad, 'If I Were A Boy.'
Check out the 35-year-old 'I Love Your Smile' singer's powerful version of the song in the YouTube clip below.
Considered one of the most underrated singers in the music game, Shanice's last album 'Every Woman Dreams' was released on her own label Imajah Music.
The former child star, who has released five studio albums, once starred on Broadway in 'Les Misérables.'
She also sang the theme song for her husband, actor Flex Alexander's sitcom 'One on One.'

Another one bites the dust! Ciara will join the now expanding list of artists to have their album shelved until “some” time in 2009. This is the second push back for Ciara following her initial summer release date. Ciara released her first single “Go Girl” off her unreleased album “Fantasy Ride” in early October to little fan fare. The single, produced by and featured T-Pain, only reached #78 on Billboard Hot 100 (ouch!). Zomba Label Group execs wants CiCi to strike a “balance between pop and urban,” like her peers Rihanna, Beyonce and Britney who all have albums dropping this year.
Not even T-Pain can stop this ship from sinking and quite frankly, not much can stop the Beyonce/Sasha Fierce tsunami on the horizon. CiCi has an extremely fit body, so I suggest that she play up her assets by directing and starring in a work out/dance video.

Brandy Update! Press Release, Vibe Magazine Photoshoot, Press Photo, & Human Preview
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 7:43 AM
(Click Here for preview of Human)
Epic Records proudly announces the release of Human, the new full-length studio album from the multi-platinum-selling Grammy-winning R&B/pop music superstar Brandy, available online and in stores on Tuesday, December 9th.
Brandy's Epic Records debut and first new album since 2004's Grammy-nominated RIAA gold-certified Afrodisiac, Human is a bold new collection of songs reflecting the artist's evolution as a musician and an individual.
"Human is my most personal album to date," said Brandy. I have grown so much since my last album. Being able to express myself and my journey through my music is a feeling I can't describe. With this new chapter of my life it feels good to have Rodney, a familiar face, by my side again. He brings out emotions in me like nobody else."
Reunited with executive producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, who first collaborated with Brandy on her 1998 multi-platinum-selling collection Never Say Never, Brandy has created the most emotionally resonant album of her career with songs and performances reflecting the truth and complexity of her experiences.
"It feels good to be back in the lab with Brandy again," said Rodney Jerkins. "We've always made great records and I'm humbled and honored to be continuing our legacy. The sound might be new, bigger, and more uplifting but we've kept our musical promise by making great songs and great music once again. There is no musical combination like ours!!!"
The album's title is a real life mirror of Brandy as a woman, an artist, a musician and a performer, communicating what it means to be fully Human: strong yet vulnerable, candid and triumphant, in love with life and in touch with the things of the spirit.
Other key tracks on Human include "Fall," which Brandy co-wrote with the chart-topping British dance/pop singer/songwriter Natasha Bedingfield, as well as the new songs "Long Distance," "Piano Man," and "Torn Down." Brandy's other musical collaborators on Human include Brian Kennedy (Rihanna/"Disturbia"), emerging production whiz RedOne (Kat DeLuna, 2006 World Cup Official Single "Hips Don't Lie" with Shakira & Wyclef Jean), and James Fauntleroy (Jordin Sparks/"No Air").

Heidi Montag Didn't Tell Dad About Marrying Spencer Pratt
0 comments Posted by J.R. Taylor at 7:42 AM
Heidi Montag doesn't usually play her cards close to the vest, but The Hills star didn't even inform her dad about marrying boyfriend Spencer Pratt.
"I would be upset if she got married and didn't invite me!" Bill Montag told PEOPLE Monday after reports surfaced that his daughter had eloped with Pratt in Mexico last week.
As for what to do now that the story appears true, "Then we just have to have another wedding here!” he said.
On Monday, Montag told Perez Hilton that she and Pratt wed at the One & Only Palmilla Resort, just outside Cabo San Lucas. "The minute we said our vows, I couldn't stop crying," she said.
Montag, 22, and Pratt, 25, have chronicled their off-again, on-again (for good this time!) romance on The Hills – including a season cliffhanger about whether or not they were really engaged.
By starting a relationship with the slick Pratt, Heidi Montag ultimately set off the well-known feud with former BFF Lauren Conrad.
The couple is set to guest star on an episode of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother in January. (The Hills is not currently in production.)

Bravo’s brave host Andy Cohen corralled all five Atlanta Housewives — NeNe, Kim, Sheree, DeShawn and Lisa — together to discuss the drama that went down on the show’s first season, and the hour resulted in fireworks. Big Papa, Kim’s anonymous millionaire boyfriend, proved to be the most sensitive subject between her and former friend NeNe, when the two almost came to blows after Kim described their relationship as “on again, off again.”
“This show has definitely had an impact on our relationship,” she said, before admitting that the man in question is legally married, but separated from his wife, which she also recently confirmed to PEOPLE.
NeNe took fault with Kim suggesting that Big Papa wasn’t fond of NeNe, even though the two had only met briefly. “Close your legs to married men,” she charged at Kim. “You heard it, you’re the one that’s trouble. You’re the one that’s going around lying on everybody. Lying every chance you get. But you better not lie to me. You made a comment that you would beat my a–. I’d like to see that happen … I’ll see you outside!”
Peacemaker Lisa had to jump into NeNe’s lap to restrain her. But the most energetic of the housewives also admitted that she’s not always such a pacifist. “I’m a little aggressive too,” she said. “I’m diplomatic and I try to conduct business. And if it’s not productive, it’s not worth my time.”
And Lisa proved she could be aggressive later when Kim suggested that Lisa had approached Kim personally about NeNe’s performance in the limo at DeShawn’s birthday.
“Your story really doesn’t add up,” she accused. “You’re a habitual liar. I think you need to take medication … She talks about Sheree like a freakin’ dog. She talked about every last one of us!”
But the typically calm and collected Lisa didn’t stop there. “I feel sorry for you,” she told Kim. “You’re pathetic. You have nothing else going on, you have no talent. Screw you ’cause you’re a liar. I have nothing to say to you. And I’ll flip you over the couch because really I’m the wrong one [to mess with] for real.”
With all of the drama that’s passed between the housewives this season, they’re not all sure that their friendships will be able to recover. “I’m good on friends,” NeNe announced. But she also had a final bone to pick with Kim: her comment about not wanting to go to DeShawn’s sunset barbecue and eat “chicken” with NeNe, which she called “suspect,” considering they ate lamb and shrimp.
And Kim wasn’t ready to let NeNe off the hook either. “I had a great time with you and there are parts of you I definitely miss for sure,” Kim told NeNe. “Have I forgiven you for the song? I mean, like I said, it’s entertaining. Maybe I blew it out of proportion, but I think part of it was a little disrespectful. But I’m past that.”
And leave it to the honorary sixth housewife and self-proclaimed biggest diva on the show, NeNe’s gay boyfriend Dwight Eubanks, to really put things in perspective. “All this cat fighting is so unnecessary,” he said, sipping mimosas on the couch between Sheree and Kim. “And it’s so unladylike.”

A year after her very public meltdown, Britney Spears is back to work and out of trouble. But what has the comeback cost her? Rolling Stone has Britney’s full story in the issue of Rolling Stone that hits newsstands this week. “I feel like an old person now,” Spears tells RS’s Jenny Eliscu. “I do! I go to bed at, like, 9:30 every night, and I don’t go out or anything, you know what I mean? I just feel like an old fart.” Spears says she’s considering lopping off the weave she’s worn since shaving her head in 2007, and counts up her tattoos (they now number seven), giggling.
