Lollapalooza is updating its image this summer as the festival is bringing in pop superstar Lady Gaga to headline one of the festival's three days of music in Chicago. Gaga will fit the August festival date into her busy summer tour schedule a few days after she plays in Kansas City.

Hopefully the Midwest August heat won't put a damper on Gaga's notoriously over-the-top stage show. (Bauer Griffin)Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour goes back on the road July 1, but hopefully the singer has set an easier pace for herself this time around. Gaga canceled a series of dates earlier this year after succumbing to the exhaustion of a break-neck tour schedule with one of the most elaborate stage shows on the road.

Gaga will undoubtedly be a big draw to the festival, but she does stick out in a lineup that's dominated by rock music. The festival is rooted in early '90s alt-rock, and this year is no exception. Gaga's fellow headliners, Soundgarden and Green Day, would have been right at home playing Lollapalooza in 1993. The inclusion of Lady Gaga signals a sea change for the festival, which is organized by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell. It appears Lollapalooza is following in the footsteps of Coachella and Bonnaroo by putting together a more eclectic mix of artists.

Three-day tickets for the festival, which runs August 6-8, are currently on sale for $215 on the Lollapalooza website. See the full lineup here.
