It’s about to be a hard knock life for Willow Smith. Following in her family’s footsteps, the “Whip My Hair” singer is in discussions to star in a remake of the 1982 musical film Annie.
The 10-year-old phenom, who previously acted in I Am Legend and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, would play the big-haired orphan adopted by a millionaire. Her father Will Smith, who developed the $350 million blockbuster The Karate Kid starring his son Jaden, would produce through his company Overbrook Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures.
On the music side, Willow’s Roc Nation boss Jay-Z has been approached about handling musical duties. The hip-hop mogul has his own Annie connection, having sampled the musical’s theme song on his 1998 hit “Hard Knock Life.”
While the film is currently in development, the pint-size diva is prepping her Roc Nation debut, slated for a spring release.
