Oops, they’re doing it again—Glee creator Ryan Murphy is currently developing another episode of his Emmy-nominated show based solely on the songbook of one pop star, and this time it’s Britney Spears, ya’ll! Break out your Catholic schoolgirl skirts and red latex jumpsuits!
Entertainment Tonight reports that Murphy confirmed the writers are currently penning a Britney Spears episode of the Emmy-nominated show. All the hubbub for a Brit-centric ep started back in April following the highly popular (and lucrative) “Power of Madonna” episode.#britneyspearsGLEE became a trending topic on Twitter, and Murphy took notice. Lest ye doubt the influence Twitter has, doubt no further.(Ah, if only #writeagoodendingtoLOST had been a trending topic before the finale, our wish may have been granted for that TV show, too.)
Also, this is nowhere near the end of the theme episodes, oh no. ET Online reports there’s plenty more on the way:
The hit show, earning 19 Emmy noms Thursday, will also air a big tribute episode after next year’s Super Bowl, but Murphy didn’t reveal which star it will be based on, only hinting that we were “close” by guessing Michael Jackson.
So… Janet Jackson, yes? No better time to tribute Ms. Jackson than after the Super Bowl.
Alright, it’s time to guess which Britney songs they’re going to use! Off the top of our heads, “Lucky,” “Toxic,” “Me Against The Music,” “Baby… One More Time,” and “Womanizer” all seem like obvious choices that could work well within the plot of the show. The song we know willdefinitely not be aired on primetime TV: “If You Seek Amy.”
