It's no secret that Khloé Kardashian hopes to have children someday. But in the meantime, she's honing her maternal instincts as stepmom to husband Lamar Odom's children.

"I love getting to hang out with them," she told our friends over @PEOPLE of Destiny and Lamar Jr., his kids from a previous relationship, at a party for HPNOTIQ Harmonie in New York City on Tuesday. "It's hard during the year because they go to school, so the summer is family time."

Kardashian, 27, and the children recently enjoyed some seasonal fun, stepping out for cool drinks in Malibu.

"Lamar's kids and their friend were in town so we went to the Malibu Country Mart to hang out and get slushies," she wrote on her website. "Just a fun little afternoon activity to cool down in the 100 degree heat!"

And Kardashian will be spending even more family time this summer. "They were with us in L.A. for two weeks and they'll be coming down again in August," she told PEOPLE. "It's fun. I love it and I know Lamar loves it."
