Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson are set to collaborate, not for a music, but for a film feature. The two are going to star together in "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf", so filmmaker Tyler Perry said to BV on Movies when he attended the New York premiere of his latest movie "Why Did I Get Married Too?".
Beside the two, Perry who will direct and write the upcoming movie, also announced other actors who have been cast in the movie. Those names are Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine and Macy Gray. Perry additionally has a role in this drama movie.
"Making a film of 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf' is a dream come true for me," Perry said about the project. "Ntozake Shange's play is a magnificent tribute to the strength and dignity of women of color, and I think audiences of all generations will be able to recognize and embrace the experiences these women represent. Creatively, this movie is one of the most exciting undertakings of my career."
Perry initially wanted singer Beyonce Knowles, Academy Award winner Halle Berry and talk show queen Oprah Winfrey on the cast ensemble for his film, but apparently they did not make it. Based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play, the film is scheduled to start shooting this June in New York City for a January 14, 2011 release.
Famous for their singing careers, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson have previously appeared in some movies separately. The Nick Cannon's wife landed a lead role in 2001 "Glitter" which earned her a Worst Actress prize in Golden Raspberry Awards and recently starred in "Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire" which helped her to receive a nomination for Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture in Screen Actors Guild Award.
As for the Michael Jackson's sister, she once appeared as Eddie Murphy's love interest in "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps". In 2007, she was cast as Patricia in Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married?" and reprise the role in the sequel "Why Did I Get Married Too?" which will be released in U.S. theaters on April 2.
