In the wake of what could be a career-derailing controversy, platinum-selling R&B crooner Chris Brown has hired attorney Mark Geragos to represent him while he is under investigation over an alleged domestic violence dispute.

Geragos is best known as the media savvy legal eagle who defended convicted murderer Scott Peterson and music legend Michael Jackson during his child molestation trial.

The 19-year-old 'Run It' singer was booked Feb. 8 on felony criminal threats charges and posted $50,000 bail after turning himself in to the LAPD. According to numerous media outlets, his chart-topping singer girlfriend Rihanna (born Robin Fenty), 20, was the victim in the alleged assault, which reportedly took place in Brown's rented Lamborghini around 12:30 a.m. following music mogul Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party Saturday night.

Police said Brown and a woman were in a vehicle near the Hancock Park section of Los Angeles early Sunday

A spokesperson for Rihanna, who is also a Cover Girl cosmetics spokesperson, has remained mum about the ordeal, although details are conveniently leaking about alleged hospital treatments and other sordid details of the night.

"She has the potential to be the greatest artist of all time and, in that sense, I feel like that's my baby sis and I would do any and everything to help her in any situation," Kanye West said on Ryan Seacrest's Los Angeles radio show, 'On Air with Ryan Seacrest.' "I don't want to speak more into the specifics with that situation, but all I'll say is it's just so devastating."

He continued, "I feel like, just as a person, I don't care how famous she is or even if she just worked at McDonald's, that should never happen. It should never come to that place."

Geragos, who hasn't released an official statement to the media, said he "just got chased by paparazzi" last night on his Twitter account and described the ordeal as "so crazy!"

Yesterday, Wrigley suspended its Doublemint ad campaigns featuring Brown. Brown, who records for the Jive/Zomba records label, was also featured in a splashy "Got Milk" campaign -- which is now under question.

"The Milk Mustache campaign is taking the allegations against Chris Brown very seriously," read a statement sent to TMZ from America's Milk Processors. "We are very proud and protective of the image of the Milk Mustache campaign and the responsible message it sends to teens. Mr. Brown's ad was launched last fall and is scheduled to end this week."

To add insult to injury, a 2007 magazine story has resurfaced with Brown admitting to a history of domestic abuse in his family.

In the said article, Brown recalls telling his mother at the age of 11 that some day he would go to jail by age 15 for killing his abusive stepfather. "I just want you to know that I love you," he told her. "But I'm gonna take a baseball bat one day while you at work, and I'm gonna kill him."
