The Pussycat Dolls are getting in on the Slumdog Millionaire phenomenon by releasing their own version of the film’s Oscar-winning song “Jai Ho.”
Slumdog Millionaire picked up eight Oscars at Sunday’s Academy Awards, including Best Original Song for composer A.R. Rahman’s “Jai Ho.” The Hindi-language hit has since been rerecorded in English by Nicole Scherzinger and the Pussycat Dolls under the title “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny).”
“It’s an honor to be able to collaborate with A.R. Rahman and be a part of the Slumdog Millionaire project in any way. The movie, the story, and the music was a gift and very spiritually uplifting for me,” states PCD’s Scherzinger. “I can only hope and pray Slumdog Millionaire, and my version of ‘Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)’ touches and connects people all around the world.”
A video was recently shot at a railway station in Vienna, Austria. The Dolls dressed in colorful attire as they recreated the last scene of the movie aboard antique trains. “The video will be a lot of fun,” says the lead Pussycat Doll.
“This is the start of a new age, with untraditional scores and beats, where Bollywood meets Western sensibilities,” adds the song’s producer Ron Fair.
