Sarah BurtonAlexander McQueen's right-hand-woman Sarah Burton has been named creative director at the late designer's fashion house. Rumors of who would head up the brand have been swirling since Gucci Group announced they would be continuing the company—those rumors can finally be put to rest.
Sarah worked with McQueen for 16 years before his death in February 2010. She joinied his team in 1996, even before graduating from Central Saint Martin, McQueen's own alumnus. Sarah quickly worked her way up to head womenswear designer in 2000, and was tasked with finishing McQueen's final collection upon his death. The collection received rave reviews and seems to indicate that McQueen's legacy is in good hands. Sarah says:
The creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee's vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy. If anyone can keep Alexander McQueen's creative vision alive, it's Sarah Burton. We can't wait to see what she does in the future and look forward to her first collection.
